Glo customers, very soon, no go fit call MTN lines again sake of say Globacom no settle interconnect charges.
Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) na im tok dis one for one public notice wey di commission Director of Public Affairs Department, Reuben Muoka, sign on Monday.
Di commission say dis notice go expire in 10 days from Monday 8 January 8. And wen e expire, Glo customers “no go fit make calls to MTN but dem go fit receive calls.”
Inside di notice, NCC say dem don give MTN partial approval to disconnect Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.
E add say dem don give Globacom notice of di application wey MTN make, plus opportunity for dem to tok dia own side of di tori.
For im own side, di commission say dem don torchlight di mata, conclude say Globacom no get any “excuse wey make am no pay di interconnect charge.”
Dis no be di first time wey yawa dey gas between Glo and MTN on top dis interconnect charge mata.
For July 2019, Glo customers bin no fit reach pipo wey dey MTN network for some days sake di operator dey owe.
NCC later confam say dis na sake of say Globacom dey owe MTN interconnect charges of N4.4bn.
But wetin be dis interconnect charges wey dey cause gbege between Glo and MTN like dis?
Interconnect charges or interconnection charges na di money wey one mobile company dey pay anoda mobile company for carrying and terminating call.
Dis na one of di ways wey mobile companies dey take make money for dia business.
Di mobile operators wey receive call go make money from di interconnection charge, while di operator from wia di call from come, go pay for di cost of di call.
So, like now, if you dey call from MTN to Glo, di money wey MTN go pay Glo for terminating dat call for im network na aim dem dey call interconnect rate.
Interconnect charge na big palava for telecommunication sector becos different operators get different ideas of how much dem suppose set as di charge.
For Nigeria, na di NCC dey determine di interconnection rate for mobile operators. Dis rates dey also include di ones for sending Short Message Service(SMS).
